Anyone can build a bad site but for a good website you need a niche. A niche is a topic or field of information in which you are either very knowledgeable or have something unique to share with visitors to your website.
I have already discussed the reasons my website became a bad website in the section titled “build a website and monetize it” and again please remember good content generates good income, bad content is a waste of time.
When I was struggling to find my niche I went through every experience I had ever had in my life and analysed it to see if I could share any of the knowledge through my website then it came to me in a flash. What have I been doing in my spare time over the last five to ten years, I have been trying to make money on the web. I have had good experiences and bad experiences but thats just it they are experiences which I can share with you allowing you to share in my mistakes and success. This is hopefully interesting to you and that means its good content. That’s my niche. I don’t need to be an expert to share my experiences with you.
Now you need to do the same it may take a while or it may come to you instantly. Sit down with a pen and a piece of paper and make a list of all the things you may have done or experienced in your life and assess whether other people would be interested in these experiences. Its not about trying to get every body in the world to visit your site it is about attracting people to your site who will be interested in what you have to say, its about your niche.
You may be a bus driver and decide to discuss the routes you drive every day, or you may be a scuba diver and want to share your knowledge, the best thing about a niche website is it will be something you know a lot about and when you come to write your content it will just flow you will not have to drag it out of your head it will just appear.
We can take the niche to its simplest form – where did you go on holiday Greece ? France ? USA ? write a review of your holiday, it could simply be a paragraph describing the resort you stayed at or it could be a diary of the whole time you were on holiday the best of it is there will always be someone in the world who is looking for a review of where you have been because they are considering going there themselves.
