We have discussed in previous sections how to build your website you should have good interesting content well laid out in a website which is easy to navigate. Now its time to monetize. Monetization in its simplest form is the placing of adverts on a site in the hope that visitors to your site will find whats being advertised interesting and click on the advert. When someone clicks on your add you are paid an amount of money which is held in a central pool until it reaches a certain value and then it is transferred to your account.
There are various purveyors of adverts which can be used to monetize your site and commission junction is one of these sites you register with them and choose the products and adverts you wish to display on your site, place the adverts on your site and wait for the money to start flooding in. You can also log into your account to see how your monetization efforts are going with information being updated regularly.
By far the easiest way to monetize your site is to place an advert on your site which looks at the text on your site and places suitable adverts on your site which are relevant to the content. This means that the visitor to your site will see adverts for products related to the subject they are interested in which means they are more likely to click the advert which generates income for you.
The main advertiser here is of course Adsense an advertising programme controlled by Google and very easy to operate. Another favourite of mine is Amazon as they will place links to books and DVD’s etc which are relevant to your content.
Adsense also allows you to design a search engine which can be adapted to search only the pages you specify so you could use it to search your own site or design a search engine which will only return results for a particular topic (look at my beatles-search-engine.50webs.com there’s an elvis one too)
