You have done all the hard work, youve found your niche, you have built your site, youve monetized your site now all you need to do is get it out there on the web. To do this you need a host, there are various hosting packages out there some free and some paid. The paid hosts are quite cheap you can pick up a hosting package for a very reasonable amount of money but why pay for hosting when you can get it for free with a free host. Most free hosting packages will allow you to place your website on their server but you will not have a top level domain name. Say your website was about cooking recipes and you wanted a domain name with the word recipe in it, if you went with a free host called say freemedia.com they would allow you to place your site on there server as a sub domain so your actual domain name would probably be recipe.freemedia.com if you went with a paid host you can choose the top level domain name you want and providing somebody doesn’t own the domain name you could if you are lucky get the domain recipe.com. Paid hosts will offer tools to work with your websites but most free hosts offer a limited number of web tools as well.
One thing to bear in mind is that search engines love top level domains that are relevant to your sites content so remember this when selecting your domain name.
Dont worry about getting your site onto the server as it is quite a simple operation and as easy as attaching a document to an e-mail.
Make sure the web space you are allocated is enough to fulfil your long term plans, there is nothing worse than expanding your website until the only limiting factor is the amount of space you have been allocated on your hosts server.
Paid host / free host ? Top level domain / subdomain ?
There is a way to get free hosting and get a top level domain. Windows Live allows you to open an account, you receive a top level domain and they host your account for free for two years. The only problem with Windows Live is that you have to use their web building software which is a little limited in what you can do with it, you can use your own software if you want but you have to upgrade your account to a paid hosting package.
